End of 2023, I started working on a short-docu where the score writing didn’t begin with a musical note, but with someone’s painting.
I stepped into the vibrant world of the legendary painter, Jangarh Singh Shyam who was also an incredible musician and his art was a visual echo of the folk music that surrounded him.
Until I finished the score in early ‘24, I was submersed in his paintings and literature about him for months. I met his childhood-musician friends, and even had his son, @shyam_mayank sing for the film, to get as close I could to his voice, in my attempt to bridge the past and present. This score is a tribute to a master, a musical conversation with his art, which was a surreal yet a grounding experience.

Grateful to my director friend, @tusharrmadhavv , for his patience and for giving me the space to create something truly experimental and honest.

Couldn’t have been possible without the contributions of my favorite @fursat_fm , who’s co-produced it and the pristine mix & master by my forever collaborator, @martinmixing

Month of May, may have been the most serendipitous of all the months that have gone by in the last 4 years. I finished recording my 2nd album. A beautiful melancholic trip to Himachal. Miru being Miru. Best friend gets married. New songs played at a performance. A surreal sunset.

3 years since my father left us today. Remembering one of my favorite poems by Rahat Indori sahab and reciting them to the mountains. August will be a month of lament forever and the world celebrates him and his words everyday.

Kal raat so he jaate magar neend udd gai,
Koi khwaab hum sajaate magar.. neend udd gai,

Ye Raat ki khamoshi, Narm bistar, ye loriyań,
Kuch bhi na kar sakenge agar.. neend udd gai,

Aankhoń ki zamiń pe jo maine khwaab boye thae,
Uss khet se aayi hai khabar.. neend udd gai,

Aur phir se ek baar meri baat bin sune,
Wo so gaye hain aur idhar.. neend udd gai,

Logoń ki hidayat ka, ki so jao waqt pe,
Kuch iss qadar hua hai asar.. neend udd gai
